Marbitz Torah Award
Rabbi Yaakov Sussman
HTC is proud to present the Marbitz Torah Award to Rabbi Yaakov Sussman in recognition of his 30 years of Harbatzas HaTorah at HTC. Rabbi Sussman’s journey to Chicago began in 1989 when he and his rebbetzin Shira moved to Chicago to join the Chicago Community Kollel. From 1993-1996 Rabbi Sussman taught 6th grade in Arie Crown Hebrew Day School and in 1994 our Yeshiva was fortunate to welcome Rabbi Sussman who began learning in our beis midrash during afternoon seder. In 1996 he became a 10th grade Rebbe in Fasman Yeshiva High School and after a few short years, Rabbi Sussman transitioned to serve as a Rosh Yeshiva-Maggid Shiur in HTC’s Beis Midrash and College program, where he taught an advanced Talmud shiur for the next 23 years.
In addition to his dynamic Gemara shiur, Rabbi Sussman is renowned for his classes based on the Maharal and has been a longtime instructor of Jewish Philosophy at HTC’s Max Bressler School of Advanced Hebrew Studies, both at HTC and the Sarah Hartman Women’s College of Touro. In 2021, Rabbi Sussman returned to the high school to teach the advanced 12th grade Gemara shiur.
Throughout his tenure as a rebbe, Rabbi Sussman developed lifelong relationships with his talmidim, leaving an indelible impact on hundreds of students who have benefited from his wisdom and guidance. Rabbi Sussman continues to inspire the community as a gifted lecturer, speaking throughout the Chicagoland area, most notably at the intensive Amud Yomi shiur at the Chicago Center for Torah & Chesed.
