Rabbi Chaim Twerski

Rabbi Chaim Twerski is a renowned talmid chacham, posek and a maggid shiur par excellence. He is a scion of the illustrious Chassidic families of Chernoble and Nodverne. His earliest mentors, aside from his distinguished parents, were his grandfather, Harav Yaakov Yisroel Twerski z"tl - the Milwaukee Rebbe, his great-uncle, the Bobover Rebbe - Harav Shlomo Halberstam z"tl and uncle, Harav Shlomo Twerski z"tl, the Denver Rav.

Upon completing his studies at the Talmudical Yeshiva, Philadelphia, Rabbi Twerski continued his learning in the beis midrash program under the guidance of the great gaonim Harav Elya Svei and Harav Shmuel Kamenetzky. He furthered his extensive Torah education at Beth Medrash Govoha, Lakewood, NJ. In 1970 he married his eishes chayil, Golda Epstein, daughter of Hagaon Hatzadik Rabbi Zeidel Epstein z"tl and continued his Torah education in several prestigious kollelim.

Serving as a member of the Los Angeles Kollel, Rabbi Twerski delivered a lecture series on hashkafa issues at Hughes Aircraft, published popular scholarly articles on mezuzos and became involved in the area of safrus.

A truly gifted and dedicated Rebbe of Beis HaMidrash LaTorah for over forty years, Rabbi Twerski has taught the intricacies of Talmud and Tosafos, Rishonim and Acharonim, Navi, Chumash and Meforshim, as well as serving as Rebbe of the Yeshiva's semicha shiur and instructing various classes of older students in hashkafa and ethics. A true mechanech, he found time to serve as co-president of Bais Yaakov Yeshivas Tiferes Tzvi for ten years.

Rav of Bais Chaim Dovid Kehilla - Lincolnwood since 1992, Rabbi Twerski is maggid shiur for the shul's daf yomi, provides counseling, answers many halachic sha'alos and is very involved in numerous community endeavors. He and his wife Golda shep much nachas from their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. It is the Yeshiva's honor and privilege to express its deepest appreciation by presenting the Lifetime Harbatzas HaTorah Award to Rabbi Chaim Twerski.
